Recommend a cheap cordless DRILL
For some non heavy duty DIY activity.
No eBay/online caper, I just want to go to a shop and buy one for no more than £40.

Talk to me.

You won't get anything much good for less than 40 quid. Maybe a Black and Decker but they are far from the best.

Re: Recommend a cheap cordless DRILL
I looked on quite a few other forums last week as my last one packed up - and found this one with some very good reviews:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-tti526com-18v-1-3ah-li-ion-cordless-combi-drill/92980

For £60 it seems to be good value - with 2 batteries so in theory should last twice as long as my other ones where the battery always goes and the cost of a replacement battery is typically as much as buying a new drill.

Used it most of Thursday doing a mixture of drilling and screwing - and was still using just the first battery. Really pleased with it.

If you're only an occasional dabbler like me, these aren't bad.

http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/14.4-V-Li-Ion-Hammer-Drill-Driver/18-3576

I've actually got two, one set up for drilling and one for screwing as I'm too lazy to swap the bits over.

Pop into Kingston and go to where Woolies used to be. You'll find them in Clas Ohlson there.

Re: Recommend a cheap cordless DRILL
Had a Ryobi drill for last 6 years or so and its done everything I've wanted of it. Both batteries though are showing signs of losing charge quicker now but that's to be expected I suppose.

Don't get one less than 18 volt and make sure it's a hammer drill as well.

Get the Ryobi One range...not sure of the price over there, but interchangeable batteries throughout the range - even lawnmowers.

Re: Recommend a cheap cordless DRILL
If you only want spend £40.00 buy an electric drill.

You obviously don’t want to use it much and cordless drills are for convenience and a £40.00 cordless drill won’t have the oomph to drill through the plastic case it comes in.

Any 240-volt plug in drill will drill through anything you need it for, will last forever and you will never have to worry about the battery being charged.

Homebase do an electric drill for around £15.00

Is it odd for a 40 year old bloke that I've never owned a drill in my entire life?

Much easier stealing my dad's I've always found, as it'll be mine when he's brown bread anyway!

I picked up a Black & Decker one for £30-something a few months ago from an independent DIY store. Works a treat. I recently saw one in Aldi at a ridiculously low price but you never know if they're going to have that sort of thing in stock.
